Geeska Freedom Centre (GFC) is being established as the first fully dedidacted human rights monitoring institution, created to address long-standing gaps in credible documentation, protection, and accountability in the Horn of Africa region with specific focus on Somalia and Somaliland.
Through constant field research, advocacy, and campaigning with others, GFC seeks to combat human rights violations in Somalia and Somaliland. Our efforts extend to building the capacity of local human rights monitors and researchers, holding perpetrators accountable for their actions, challenging oppressive legislation, supporting affected communities, and securing the release of individuals unjustly imprisoned solely for expressing their opinions.
GFC is governed by an independent and diverse Board of Directors, providing strategic oversight, ethical governance, and institutional protection.
Our Vision
Our Mission
Geeska Freedom Centre (GFC) is an independent non-profit human rights organization and Community Interest Company (CIC) dedicated to the systematic documentation of violations, the protection of affected communities, and evidence-based legal and policy advocacy, with a focus on marginalized and at-risk communities. Our work focuses on both Somalia and Somaliland.
How We Work
GFC operates through a phased, scalable model that prioritizes credibility and safety before expansion:
-
Foundation-Level Monitoring and Reporting – Establishing reliable, systematic documentation of human rights violations.
-
Expanded Geographic Coverage and Early Warning – Extending monitoring to more regions and providing timely alerts on emerging risks.
-
Institutional Capacity for Legal Action and Advocacy – Strengthening the organization’s ability to pursue legal remedies and conduct evidence-based advocacy.
